Howard Bloom Remembers the Genius of Prince

I first became aware of Prince like many people when he ruled the year 1984. Musically there was no escaping Purple Rain or Van Halen’s 1984. The albums were unreal, and ready made for music television with memorable videos and Prince’s film Purple Rain.

My musical tastes ran more towards Van Halen so Prince was off my radar until Under the Cherry Moon. It was a lesson for me to see people who hailed Prince as a genius pile on about the movie’s quality. I believe there was a lot of professional jealousy involved as well. Next came the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s Batman, a very underrated soundtrack.

As I got older I was able to see past the hype and recognize Prince was a true genius musically and with how he promoted himself. I hope you enjoy the insight Howard bloom shares in the above clip.
