Mr. O’Reilly’s dismissal amounts to an enormous shift in cable news, and the TV industry was ablaze with talk late last week whether the move has the potential to open up a cable news war that for more than a decade has been dominated by Fox News.
I am not a fan of Bill O’Reilly. I think he acts like a jackass on camera and probably is one in real life. Nobody seems to be picking up on the fact that Fox News is and has been changing dramatically for a year.
Akira being ousted Megan Kelly walking to NBC and O ‘Reilly’s departure are part of a pattern. Murdoch has an ideology and it is make money. He sees the trends other News networks don’t.
He got rid of Megan Kelly who only offered ratings sparks when she sparred with Trump. Her big prime time coming out fizzled. She is a has been and will flounder at NBC.
He got rid of Ailes once it became clear he plateaued at Fox News. He leveraged sexual harassment claims that should have been killed by internal HR to oust overpaid O ‘Reilly. Who doesn’t think Tucker Carlson will dominate that time slot in the 18-35 demo?
As long as other news organizations are slave to shut narratives and horribly unappealing democratic candidates they will not make a dent in Fox News’ dominance.
